What are housing cooperatives?
Housing Co-operatives are non-profit run housing at-cost to its members.
Those living within co-ops do not have a landlord and vote for decisions made for
the housing co-op

What is affordable housing?
In Canada, housing is considered “affordable” if it costs less than 30% of a
household’s before-tax income.
However, it’s a broad term that includes housing provided by the private, public
and non-profit sectors and all forms of housing tenure.
Who does affordable housing affect?
Affordable housing often targets vulnerable populations, such as seniors, those
with disabilities, single mothers and their children, and individuals experiencing
domestic violence.
Low-income individuals and families by providing them with access to safe and
affordable housing options
Entire communities by reducing homelessness, improving overall housing stability,
and supporting economic development
What is community programming?
Community programming consists of services and activities designed to serve
specific communities in their own environment.
How will Guyana Community House achieve the goal of building affordable housing for the community?
Guyana Community House is organised by our community of volunteers, board members, and staff. Together, we are aiming to secure funding for the housing cooperative through government funding and grants, fundraising initiatives, and community bonds.
When will the community centre and housing be open?
We aim to commence construction by the end of 2026.
